Waste factors are approximate and are calculated using manufacturer’s offset instructions for standard installations. Waste factors will vary based on the roof design, number of levels, and run height. There will always be waste for any shingle at the end of a run or on cut-up and hip roofs. Contractors should monitor their waste factor over the course of several jobs before making adjustments to material waste factors.
